I Love FL, Been here 8 years from Hellinoise. I guess it depends on where in Florida. I would never live in Orlando.
It is getting more expensive. But really it's just catching up to other big city's in the US.
When I talk to people in Florida and look at prices they are definitely the same price here in Pennsylvania now and our groceries are 12% higher than most states. Not sure why. I did comparison shopping and NY and NJ have cheaper groceries than we do.
I moved here from South West Missouri three years ago. I love it here but I'm a realistic person. My sister mover here with 3 kids and husband and lasted a year until their lease was up and moved back. She was not realistic and wanted the vacation life permanently. I live in South Central Florida and Love It! We circled an area on the map and had a wonderful realtor. Rent is the same in this area as it was in Missouri.
I moved her last year (Fort Myers) and LOVE IT! You have to choose your home wisely if buying and know the value will be reassessed the year after you purchase. I had a checklist of wind and construction items that were "must haves" to keep insurance costs down. Car insurance will probably be higher.

For the most part, Florida is one big boomtown.
